Overland Park, KS – No. 3 Grand View traveled to Kansas to take on No. 6 Oklahoma Wesleyan in their season opener. The Vikings fell 2-1 in a tough, back and forth battle.

The two teams, who met in the middle in Overland Park, KS at the Scheels Soccer Complex, battled the entire 90 minutes of the contest. OKWU struck first in the match on a corner kick by Stefan Lukic. Lukic's ball found its way to Aleksandar Simovic, who put it in the back of the net for the opening goal. As the two teams headed into the break, the Eagles held a 1-0 advantage over the Vikings.

In the opening minute of the second half, Grand View was able to find the back of the net to tie the score at 1-1. Simone Raiola (JR/Triuggio, Italy) was able to dribble to the end line and serve David Gomez (SR/Albion, IA) who put the ball into the bottom right corner of the net.

In the 78th minute, Stefan Lukic of OKWU broke the tie with a shot to the top left corner of the goal from 30 yards out, which sealed the victory for Oklahoma Wesleyan.

Gomez, Sam Graving (SR/Johnston, IA) and Raiola led the Vikings with two shot each. Patrick Zwingenberger (FR/Mannheim, Germany) recorded five saves for the Grand View.

Grand View will face St. Ambrose Saturday, August 26 at 5 p.m. on campus at Grand View University.
