La Crosse, WI - The No. 10 Grand View women's volleyball team kicked off their season with a 2-1 at the Viterbo Invitational over the weekend defeating No. 23 Carroll College and No. 4 Midland University and falling to No. 6 Viterbo University. 

Friday (Aug 18) afternoon they started in the win column with a 3-2 victory over No. 23 Carroll College (Mont.) (25-23, 23-25, 23-25, 21-25, 15-8). Senior Erin Wenzel (Clinton, Iowa) led the way with 20 kills while sophomore Trystin Luneckas (West Branch, Iowa) had 44 assists. Junior Kelsey Redmond (Iowa Falls, Iowa), junior Jordyn Rittman (Ankeny, Iowa), and sophomore Keely Larkin (Johnston, Iowa) all contributed defensively with 21, 15, and 13 digs, respectively. Redmond also chipped in nine kills and finished with seven aces.

On Saturday, the Vikings faced another tough opponent in No. 4 Midland University (Neb.) and earned their second win of the year in four sets (25-19, 17-25, 25-20, 25-15). Redmond had a team-high 15 kills while junior Courtney Twit (West Des Moines, Iowa) added 10 kills and Wenzel had nine. Rittman led with 21 digs and freshman Gabby Ridgeway (Norwalk, Iowa) had 11. Luneckas tallied 40 assists in the win.

In their final game of the weekend, the Vikings faced host team No. 6 Viterbo. Unfortunately, the Vikings fell for the first time this season dropping the match 3-1 (25-4, 20-25, 25-3, 26-24). Redmond led offensively with 10 kills, Larkin led defensively with 14 digs, and Luneckas had a team-high 22 assists.

Following the tournament, Redmond and Wenzel were named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Vikings continue their season next weekend (Aug 25-26) as they travel to compete in the Montana Tech tournament. Grand View will open their home season with their first Heart of America match on August 29 against Graceland University.
