Columbia, MO-  No. 21 Grand View softball's journey in the 2017 NAIA Softball World Series Opening Round came to an end Tuesday after falling to No. 1-seed Columbia College 9-0 and No. 2 seed University of Mobile (Ala.) 2-0. TOURNAMENT PAGE

In game one, the Vikings were defeated by No. 3 nationally ranked Columbia College 9-0. GV loaded the bases in the first inning but was not able to bring in a run. Columbia took a 2-0 lead in the second inning  and the Vikings were unable to get on the board while the Cougars continue to add runs. The Vikings recorded four hits to the Cougars nine. Devin Brown (SR/Indianola, Iowa), Stanzy Snyder (JR/Johnston, IA), Mackenzie Lose (FR/Carlisle, IA) and Kirsten Webb each recorded a hit for GV. Claudia Farrell (JR/Des Moines, Iowa) pitched a strong 5 innings with Libby Yenger (SO/Indianola, Iowa) coming in for the final two.

In game two, the Vikings struggled again connecting offensively. Grand View left two runners on base in the bottom of the second. Mobile put two runs up in the top of the third and were able to hold the Vikings off for the remainder of the game. GV recorded three hits, Brown, Lexi Merritt, Webb and no errors. Farrell pitched a complete game, recording 9 strikeouts and allowed two earned runs of four hits.

The Vikings end the 2017 season with a 42-15 record and earning the 2017 regular season Heart of America Athletic Conference title along with being the first Grand View softball team to win a game in the NAIA National Championship Series.
