Columbia, MO- Grand View softball wrote school history earning its first-ever win in the NAIA Softball World Series Opening Round, Monday afternoon in the Columbia (Mo.) Bracket at the Antimi Sports Complex at Cosmo Park.  After 8 innings, the Vikings defeated the University of Mobile (Ala.) 2-1, with the winning run coming from senior Devin Brown (SR/Indianola, Iowa). Lexi Merritt (FR/Waukee, IA) hit a stand up double in the bottom of the second to be brought in off a single from teammate Mackenzie Lose (FR/Carlisle, IA) giving the Vikings a 1-0 lead. Grand View was able to hold onto the lead until a Viking error in the top of the sixth gave Mobile the opportunity to tie the game 1-1, sending it into extra innings.

In the bottom of the eighth, Grand View's Brown reached on a walk and Stanzy Snyder (JR/Johnston, IA) advanced Brown on a single to left-center. Kate Crow (JR/Ames, Iowa) then put the ball in play and off aggressive base running from Brown, the Vikings were able to walk away with a 2-1 victory.  

Lexie Biehl led the Vikings offensively, going 2-3 at the plate. Claudi Farrell received the win for the Vikings on the mound, recording six strikeouts, no earned runs and allowing five hits.

The Vikings will face No. 1-seed Columbia College tomorrow, May 16, at 11am. Columbia defeated No. 4-seed Cumberlands (Ky.) 8-0 in their game today.
