KANSAS CITY, Mo.– Six Vikings earned honors as The Heart of America Athletic Conference named its 2017 All-Conference Baseball teams in conjunction with the Heart Tournament being played at US Baseball Park in Ozark, Mo.COMPLETE LIST

Senior Cody Mathews (Middleton, ID) and junior Austin Marchant (Indianola, IA) highlighted the honors for the Vikings. Mathews was named 2nd team All-Conference as a starting pitcher in the Heart of America conference. Mathews went 8-3 on the year, leading the Vikings on the hill. The conference also selects a Gold Glove team to honor the best defensive players at each position. Mathews also won the Gold Glove award as the Starting pitcher in the Heart of America.

Marchant (Indianola, IA) earned the unanimous selection in the Heart of America Conference as the 1st team, and top relief pitcher in the conference. Marchant broke the school record with 13 saves, and led the country in saves. Marchant also broke the school record for lowest ERA for a middle reliever with a 0.00 earned run avg. The original record was set in 1983 by Dave Burkstrand with a 0.75 earned run avg.

Senior Ryan Curtis (Altoona, IA) earned Honor mention All-Conference honors as an Outfielder. This is his second award as an outfielder, the first in the Heart of America conference. Junior Dustin Nelson (Mondovi, WI) earned 2nd team All-Conference honors for outfield along with junior Damon Nuss (Sumner, IA) earning Honorable mention All-Conference honors as a second baseman and freshman Josh Luna (Pleasantville, IA) who earned Honorable Mention All-Conference for first base.

The Vikings ended their 2017 season with a 29-23 record, going 1-2 in the Heart of America Conference Tournament.
