Grand View Men's Track and Field Team

The men's track and field team grabbed a third place finish in the Heart of America Championship meet hosted by William Penn over the weekend.

The Vikings, who missed second place by just one point, had two first place finishes including the 4x400 relay as well as the javelin. The 4x400 team comprised of senior Bryon Christensen (Johnston, Iowa), freshman Brandon Albaugh (Bondurant, Iowa), senior Clay Cory (Elkhart, Iowa), and freshman Danton Irelan finished in 3:30.76. Senior Taylor Mitchell (Des Moines, Iowa) had a championship and Grand View record throw of 53.77m in the javelin. Mitchell also placed second in the hammer and hit a NAIA "B" standard with his mark of 51.77m.

Hammer-Clay Siefken (SO/Burlington, Iowa) 50.74m-3rd
Shot Put-Anthony Cwiok (FR/Naperville, Ill.) 14.34m-2nd
Discus-Jacob Goeller (SO/Fairbank, Iowa) 49.13m-2nd
400m hurdles-Jorden Nathan (SO/Ankeny, Iowa) 55.78-2nd

Grand View will compete in the Concordia Twilight on Friday (May 12) in Seward, Nebraska. Two weeks of competition remain to qualify for the 2017 NAIA Men's Outdoor Track and Field National Championship, May 25-27 at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium in Gulf Shores, Ala.
