The Grand View Vikings track and field team was represented by 11 athletes in five different events at the Drake Relays held last weekend in Des Moines.

Grand View's showing was highlighted by senior Taylor Wells' (Des Moines, Iowa) in the discus. Wells placed eighth in the women's discus with a mark of 45.89 meters, making school history. Wells was the only non-NCAA Division I athlete to qualify for the finals and became the highest Viking thrower at the Drake Relays in Grand View history. 

Other events competing included the men's discus, the men's and women's 4x100 relays and the women's 4x400 relay. Sophomore Jacob Goeller (Fairbank, Iowa) was the only other Grand View athlete to place as he finished 14th in the discus with his throw of 48.97m.

The women's 4x100 team ran a time of 48.76 in the preliminaries and was made up of freshman Dimetrea Hamilton (Des Moines, Iowa), junior Ronnoja Ayers (Des Moines, Iowa), senior Katie Roberts (Ankeny, Iowa) and freshman Allie Flaws (Webster City, Iowa). Flaws, Ayers, Roberts also ran in the 4x400 relay along with senior Jaidin Ross (Omaha, Neb.). The men's 4x100 team consisting of sophomore Jorden Nathan (Ankeny, Iowa), sophomore Daniel Headley (Melbourne, Fla.) freshman Brandon Albaugh (Bondurant, Iowa) and senior Bryon Christensen (Johnston, Iowa) posted a time of 44.13 in their preliminary race but did not make finals.

The Vikings will compete in the Heart of America Conference Championships this weekend (May 5-6) held at William Penn University in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
