Peru State College

Peru, Nebraska- The Grand View easeball team went 2-2 this week against Peru State College.  The Vikings are now 19-13 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference and 28-21 overall earning them the #3 seed in the north division of the Heart of America Athletic Conference. 

In the first game on Thursday, the Vikings lost 3-2, after giving up a walk-off homerun in the bottom of the eighth inning. Sam Wadsworth (SR/Grimes, Iowa) pitched a strong 7 innings, giving up only 3 earned runs off of seven hits.  Grand View was led at the plate by Dustin Nelson (JR/Mondovi, Wisconsin) who went 2-4 with an RBI and Ryan Curtis (SR/Altoona, Iowa) who went 2-3.

In game two, Grand View won 7-2, after Jack Haller (JR/Urbandale, Iowa) hit a solo homerun in the top of the sixth to take the lead for good.  Cody Mathews (SR/Middleton, Idaho) recorded the win, lasting 5.2 innings, giving up just two earned runs on seven hits.  Austin Marchant (JR/Indianola, Iowa) came in with two outs in the sixth inning to record the save.  The Vikings were led at the plate by Tyler Smith (FR/South Africa) who went 3-4 and Haller who went 2-2 with 3RBI.

In game one on Friday, Grand View defeated Peru State, 8-2 after taking the lead early in the 2nd inning.  Eric Winter (JR/Oakdale, Minnesota) recorded the win lasting a strong 6.0 innings, while giving up no earned runs and four hits.  The Vikings were led at the plate by Haller who went 2-3 with 2RBI, Nelson who went 2-3 with an RBI, and Hunter Embray (JR/Knoxville, Iowa) who went 2-4 with 2RBI.

In the second game, the Vikings lost 3-1 after out-hitting the Bobcats ten to five.  Grand View was led at the plate by Smith and Josh Luna (FR/Pleasantville, Iowa) who both had three hits.

The Vikings will next be playing in the Heart of America Conference Tournament this Wednesday, May 3rd and will be the #3 seed in the North.
