St. Louis, MO (Bracket | Schedule & Results) - No. 1 Grand View enters as the top seed into the 2017 NAIA Men's Volleyball Invitational. The Vikings will begin pool play April 20, facing No. 6 seed Lourdes University (Ohio) at 1pm and No. 3 seed Park University (Missouri) at 7pm.
The Vikings enter the invitational on a 14 game winning streak and 22-3 overall record. Grand View is the regular season champions of the Heart of America Athletic Conference posting a 10-0 record and also claimed the Heart of America Conference Tournament Championship.
Grand View and Lourdes competed earlier in the season, March 9. The Vikings defeated the Pirates 3-1 (25-17, 25-22, 23-25, 27-25).
The Vikings split with Park University in regular season 1-1. The most recent match-up was on March 4 where the Vikings swept the Pirates 3-0 (29-27,25-20, 25-21).
Men's Volleyball is in the second year of "Invitational Sport" status, which means that at least 25 institutions currently sponsor men's volleyball at an intercollegiate varsity level. After the completion of the NAIA National Invitational, the sport will be reviewed by the National Administrative Council (NAC), which governs the NAIA sport status. If approved at that point by the NAC and if the sport meets a minimum of 40 institutions sponsoring the sport at an intercollegiate varsity level, then the sport of Men's Volleyball would become a NAIA National Championship sport beginning with the 2017-18 season.
