Des Moines, Iowa-The Grand View baseball team went 2-2 this weekend falling 5-4 in game one, winning game two 13-12 (14 innings, falling 5-3 in game three and ending the weekend on at 5-3 win over the Wildcats of Culver-Stockton. The Vikings are now 21-15 overall and 12-7 in the Heart.


In the first game, the Vikings tied the game up in the bottom of the sixth inning 4-4, but came up short in a tough battle back, losing 4-5.  Cody Mathews (SR/Middleton, Idaho) got the start on the mound, going 6.0 innings while giving up four runs on four hits.  Grand View was led at the plate by Jack Haller (JR/Urbandale, Iowa) who went 2-3 with an RBI and Cody Cline (FR/Fall Creek, Wisconsin ) who went 1-2 with an RBI. 

In the second game, the Vikings won 13-12 after Dustin Nelson (JR/Mondovi, Wisconsin) recorded the walk-off on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 14th inning. The score was tied 9-9 at the bottom of the seventh inning, sending the teams into extra innings. Brandon Mazur (SR/Woodbury, Minnesota) recorded the win after pitching 2.0 innings, giving up two earned runs on four hits. Michael Foggia (SR/Grimes, Iowa), Cline and Nelson all hit a homeruns for the Vikings. Grand View was led at the plate by Damon Nuss (JR/Sumner, Iowa) who went 4-7 with an RBI, Nelson who went 2-5 with 4RBI, Ryan Curtis (SR/Altoona, Iowa) who went 2-4, and Josh Luna (FR/Pleasantville, Iowa) who went 3-7 with 4RBI.

In the third game, the Vikings fall 5-13 after giving up five runs in both the fourth and seventh inning.  Grand view was led at the plate by Luna who went 3-4, Hunter Embray (JR/Knoxville, Iowa) who went 1-2 with an RBI and Mike Foggia who went 1-4 with 3RBI.

In the fourth game, the Vikings took the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning to win 5-3.  Sam Wadsworth (SR/Grimes, Iowa) pitched a complete game, giving up three earned runs on six hits to record the win.  Grand View was led at the plate by Haller who went 2-3, and Cline who went 1-3 with 2RBI.

Grand View will next play on Tuesday, April 17th at home for a double header versus Baker University.
