Des Moines, Iowa - The Grand View women's soccer program is pleased to announce the addition of Victoria Purcell, daughter of Amos and Jacquelyn Purcell to the 2017-18 roster. Purcell was 3-year center back letter winner for South East Polk High School where she was coached under Chris Roberts.

To go along with lettering three years, she has achieved many different honors both academically and in soccer. Purcell received CIC Eastern Honorable Mention for 3 years, was voted MVP defensive player by her team 2 years in a row and also captain her junior year.

Victoria's academic honors consisted of being recognized as one of the top 10 students of her freshman class and top 40 students of her senior class at the Bill Burch Honors Breakfast. Purcell received the Lamp of Knowledge for 3 years and she was part of the National Honor Society. In addition to academically lettering 3 years in soccer, she also lettered 3 years in swimming and 4 years in diving. Purcell ranked in the top 6 divers of all time at Southeast Polk for both 11 and 6 dives.

Head coach Ventsi Stoimirov is pleased with Purcell's commitment, "I am delighted Victoria will be a Viking this fall. She has been a very successful multi-sport athlete but her passion and commitment to personal development in soccer is remarkable. Any forward who comes across Victoria will be on the receiving end of her well timed strong tackles. However, they will be even more impressed with Victoria's soccer intelligence, vison and technical ability. We are looking for defenders who have the ability to start our attack from the back, the confidence to slot short passes into our midfielders, but also the ability to bypass opponents high pressure with accurate long range passing to our forwards. Victoria has those qualities and since she is a perfectionist by nature she continues to work relentlessly on improving every aspect of her game."

Purcell plans to study Special Education while she is here playing soccer at Grand View.
