DES MOINES, Iowa - Grand View completed a regular season and postseason double by posting a 22-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-22 win over Missouri Valley in the championship game of the 2017 Heart of America Athletic Conference Men's Volleyball Tournament, Saturday afternoon in the Charles S. Johnson Wellness Center. Box Score

With the victory, Grand View (24-3) extended its current winning streak to 16 matches and earned an automatic berth into the 2017 NAIA Men's Volleyball National Invitational Tournament, April 19-22 at Missouri Baptist University in St. Louis, Mo.

Grand View finished off a perfect 12-0 mark against conference foes this season after posting a 10-0 record during the regular season, followed up with wins in each of its tournament contests. Heart Player of the Year Pedro Cardoso (SR/Sao Paulo, Brazil) shared team-high honors with 13 kills and hit .440, while Felipe Nogueira (SR/Sao Paulo, Brazil) also fired 13 kills, three blocks and hit .409.

Despite sweeping both matches during the regular season against Missouri Valley, Grand View was forced to come from behind in the championship match after dropping the opening set. The Missouri Valley offense was clicking in the opening stanza, posting a .467 hitting percentage that included 17 kills on 30 swings with just three errors. Grand View posted its worst offensive numbers of the match in the first set, hitting just .231.

Grand View turned up its defense in the second set, forcing nine Missouri Valley errors that led to a .091 hitting percentage. On its end, Grand View made just one hitting error to even the match.

The final two sets saw the trend continue up for Grand View on the offensive end, combining to hit .479 in the final two frames to win its second-straight championship. Alfredo Batista (JR/Bayamon, Puerto Rico) dished out 36 assists to guide the Grand View offense, while Steve Harvey (SR/St. Louis, Missouri) recorded 10 digs and Zakir Pasha (JR/Chicago, Illinois) posted six blocks.

The Vikings will compete in the NAIA National Invitational April 19-22 in St. Louis, MO.
