Des Moines, Iowa- Grand View baseball hosted No. 11 Clarke University for a four games series Saturday and Sunday. The Grand View Baseball team won game two on Sunday in the four-game home series to avoid a sweep.  The Vikings are now 9-5 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference and 17-12 overall. 

In the first game on Saturday, the Vikings lost 13-3 after not being able to come back from an early Crusader lead.  Grand View was led at the plate by Damon Nuss (JR/Sumner, Iowa) who went 3-4, Jack Haller (JR/Urbandale, Iowa) who went 2-3 with two doubles, and Josh Luna (FR/Pleasantville, Iowa) who went 2-4.  Kevin Richardson (JR/Ankeny, Iowa) had a strong relief pitching performance lasting 2.0 innings while giving up no earned runs and only one hit.  Cody Mathews (SR/Middleton, Idaho) suffered the loss for the Vikings.

In game two, Grand View fell 9-4 despite a comeback late in the game to bring the Clarke lead to one run.  The Vikings were led at the plate by Dustin Nelson (JR/Mondovi, Wisconsin) who went 2-2 with a HR and 2RBI, Jake Miller (SR/Prior Lake, Minnesota) who went 2-3 with a HR and an RBI, and by Nick Panzica (SR/Minonk, Illinois) who went 1-2.  Nick Bentley (JR/Woodbury, Minnesota) suffered the loss after pitching a strong 6.0 innings, giving up eight hits and four earned runs. 

In game one on Sunday, Grand View suffered a 16-7 loss as they were outhit by Clarke, 20-9.  The Vikings were led at the plate by Luna who went 2-2 with an RBI, Nuss who went 2-5 with a double and an RBI, Tyler Smith (FR/South Africa) who went 3-5 with an RBI, and Ryan Curtis (SR/Altoona, Iowa) who went 2-4 with an RBI.  Parker Thode (FR/Ottumwa, Iowa) started the game and suffered the loss through 3.0 innings. 

In the second game, the Vikings won 6-2 after a strong five run bottom of the fifth inning.  Dustin Nelson hit a grand slam to give the Vikings a 6-2 lead. Sam Wadsworth (SR/Grimes, Iowa) got the win after a strong complete game pitching performance giving up only two earned runs on six hits while striking out seven batters.  Grand View was led at the plate by three multi-hit games coming from Nuss, Luna, and Nelson. 

The Vikings will be on the road Tuesday as they travel to play Waldorf in a double-header with games starting at 2pm and 4pm.
