Cedar Rapids, Iowa- The Grand View baseball team won all four games of their series against the Mount Mercy Mustangs this past weekend.  The Vikings are now 8-2 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference and 16-9 overall. 

In the first game on Saturday, the Vikings won 4-3. Cody Mathews (SR/Middleton, Idaho) recorded the win going six strong innings giving up three earned runs on five hits.  Austin Marchant (JR/Indianola, Iowa) was brought in to finish it off and record the save in the seventh inning giving up no runs and no hits while striking out two.  Grand View was led at the plate by Ryan Curtis (SR/Altoona, Iowa) who went 3-4 with a double and by Dustin Nelson (JR/Mondovi, Wisconsin) who went 2-2 with a double and an RBI. 

In game two, Grand View won a close 3-2 game after out-hitting the Mustangs eight to three.  Damon Nuss (JR/Sumner, Iowa) led the Vikings at the plate going 2-4 with a double, a homerun, and an RBI.  Nick Bentley (JR/Woodbury, Minnesota) got the start on the mound and received the win giving up only one earned run on just three hits.  He struck out seven batters through the six innings that he pitched.  Austin Marchant again recorded the save striking out one batter in an inning pitched, giving up no runs and no hits.

In game one on Sunday, Grand View defeated Mount Mercy 3-1, out-hitting the Mustangs nine to one.  Hitting leaders included: Curtis who went 3-4 with an RBI, Josh Luna (FR/Pleasantville, Iowa) who went 2-4 with 2B, and Nelson who went 2-3.  Parker Thode (FR/Ottumwa, Iowa) threw a two-hit complete game giving up only one earned run while striking out seven batters. 

In the second game, the Vikings took the lead early with two runs in the first inning and held on two win 4-2.  Grand View was led at the plate by Michael Foggia (SR/Grimes, Iowa) who went 2 for 2 with a double, a triple, and an RBI and by Nick Panzicka who went 2 for 3.  Sam Wadsworth (SR/Grimes, Iowa) pitched a complete game giving up no earned runs on five hits while striking out four.

The Vikings will be back on the road as they travel to Fayette, MO to take on the Central Methodist Eagles in a double header starting at 1:00 pm.
