The 23rd ranked Grand View Vikings men's basketball team will face off with the 10th ranked Pikeville Bears in the opening round of the 2017 Buffalo-Funds NAIA Division 1 Men's Basketball National Championship which begins next Wednesday, March 15 and runs through Tuesday, March 21.

The Vikings, who drew the 6th seed in Naismith portion of the bracket will play the Bears who drew the 3rd seed at 9 AM Thursday, March 16th in the opening game of the day. Pikeville is out of the Mid-South Conference, arguably one of the top NAIA Division 1 conferences in the nation, much like the vaunted Heart of America Conference. The Bears are currently 26-7 overall and finished 9-5 in their conference which was tied for 2nd place.

Grand View is currently 20-10 overall and finished 18-8 in the Heart of America Conference which finished them in 2nd place as well. The winner will play Friday at 5:45 PM against either 2nd seed Columbia out of Missouri or Lewis-Clark State out of Idaho the 7th seed.

Grand View is one of 32 qualifers for the National Championship and was one of four Heart of America Conference teams selected for the tournament. William Penn, Benedictine, and Mount Mercy also made the field of 32.
