In their second consecutive road game of the season, the Vikings were not able to find the end zone. Grand View went on the road to Drake University and were on the short end of a 22-0 defeat. The Vikings were led on defense by sophomore Mayron Martinez with seven solo tackles. The Vikings defense was able to keep the Bulldogs from reaching the end zone in the second half, but two Bulldog touchdowns in the first half were too much to overcome Saturday night for the Vikings of Grand View.

It marked the first meeting between the two schools which are located five miles from one another.

The Bulldogs defense gave Grand View's offense and sophomore quarterback Gregory Charles fits all night long. Gregory, making his first start of the season, finished the night 11 of 30 for 70 yards and one interception. Gregory's eleven completions were made to seven different Grand View receivers, led by junior Jay Medellin's three receptions.

Grand View's best scoring opportunity of the evening came late in the second quarter when they attempted a 27-yard field goal by sophomore kicker Blake Steil. The field goal attempt was blocked by Drake's junior Michael Lahart, and he was able to recover the loose football and return it 46 yards.

The longest drive of the game for the Vikings came in the fourth quarter, when the Vikings put together a 13-play, 59 yard drive. However, the drive came to a halt when Grand View turned the ball over to the Bulldogs on downs.

The Bulldogs were able to score on their first three possessions of the evening, getting a 37 yard field goal and a 61 yard pass in the first quarter. The third possession of the game for Drake University ended with another touchdown, when Nathan Paddock scored on a three-yard burst.

The Vikings were led in rushing by sophomore running back Daryl Ford of Houston, Texas. Ford rushed for a game-high 55 yards on ten carries, while Gregory carried the ball ten times, rushing for 19 yards. Grand View had six different Vikings carry the ball, but were not able to break the hundred yard mark against a very tough Drake defense.

Martinez and the Vikings defense were able to record four sacks of Drake's quarterback Mike Piatkowski. Although, Piatkowski was sacked four times, he was able to complete 23 passes for a total of 248 yards. Tyler Andersen, senior defensive linemen, recorded a team-high two sacks and 3.5 tackles for loss. Senior defensive back intercepted Piatkowski late in the second quarter, resulting in the only turnover of the night for the Bulldogs of Drake University.

Grand View University (1-1) will look to rebound from their first loss of the season at home next Saturday, September 12, against the University of Saint Francis at 1 p.m.
