Women's Basketball - Sun, Feb. 19, 2017

The Grand View women's basketball team hit the road Saturday (Feb 18) to take on Missouri Valley in Marshall, Mo. Early foul trouble kept key players on the bench for much of the first half and the Vikings went into half time down 39-33. Grand View out-scored Missouri Valley 17-15 in the third quarter, but were not able to capitalize on scoring opportunities down the stretch and dropped the game 74-68.

Freshman Abby Penquite (Altoona, Iowa) finished with 12 points and had the hot hand in the first quarter starting the game with four consecutive three-pointers before Missouri Valley's defense would settle in.  Junior Annie Penquite (Altoona, Iowa) and senior Maddie Westergard (Fort Calhoun, Neb.) each finished with 14 points. Penquite connected on four triples out of her nine attempts while Westergard went 6-7 from the floor. Point guards Jaci Stumpf (Fort Dodge, Iowa) and Rachel Danielson (Mason City, Iowa) each had seven points in the loss.

The Vikings out-shot Missouri Valley from both overall (48%-42%) and from behind the arc (39%-37%) but struggled again from the free throw line hitting only 54% (7-13) of their attempts compared to the opponents 79% (15-19).

Grand View (13-15, 10-14) will return to their home floor on Wednesday (Feb 22) for their final regular season home game against Mount Mercy (12-16, 9-15). Game time is set for 5:30 p.m. in Sisam Arena.
