Indoor Track and Field - Mon, Feb. 13, 2017

Jacksonville, IL- The Grand View Vikings men's and women's track teams competed this last weekend in the 2017 Heart of America Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship at Illinois College. The women tied for second while the men placed fifth.

The Men placed 5th with a total of 76 points. The men's team posted 21 season's best marks at the conference meet. Chance Tatman (JR/Spencer, Iowa) was conference champion in the shot put with a season's best mark of 14.81m. Clay Cory (SR/Elkhart, Iowa) broke his own school record in the 400m dash with a time of 50.22 seconds, placing 2nd overall. Taylor Murray (SO/Clinton, Iowa) also broke his own school record in the 3000m Race Walk posting a time of 18:52.23.

The women's team tied for second with a total of 101 points.The women's team posted 30 season's best marks at the conference meet. Freshman LaVon Davis (FR/Ames, IA) was conference champion in the shot put with a season's best mark of 12.89m. Ronnoja Ayers (JR/Des Moines, Iowa) defended her conference title in the 200m dash, breaking the GV school record in a time of 25.97 seconds.Ayers also placed 2nd in the 400m dash and hit the NAIA B-standard posting a time of 58.83 seconds.Senior Taylor Wells (SR/Des Moines, Iowa) was conference runner-up in the Wt Throw as she hit an NAIA automatic qualifying mark of 16.43m. Dimetrea Hamilton (FR/Des Moines, Iowa) was runner-up in the 60m hurdles, breaking the GV school record and improving her NAIA B standard national qualifying time to 9.07 seconds. Hayley Leonard (SR/Maxwell, Iowa) broke her own school record in the 3000m Race Walk posting a time of 21:55.33.
