Following their final four appearance at the NAIA National Tournament the Grand View Men's soccer team has been recognized by the NAIA National office and honored with the Nels Dahlquist Memorial Team Sportsmanship Award. This was the Vikings first appearance in the NAIA Final Four in school history and first time earning this honor. The award was given on the following criteria:
The National Tournament Supervisor of Officials breaks down the number of fouls and cards given to each team throughout their respective final site games and recommends a team with one of the lowest total numbers in those categories to receive the award. After receiving that recommendation, the National Tournament Games Committee along with the NAIA Men's Soccer Manager of Championship Sports review that team's behavior throughout the week with staff, officials, opposing teams and during special events (e.g. banquets and champions of character activities). If all agree that the recommended team combines success in competition with respect and positive behavior toward everyone they encounter, they are selected as the award recipient.
Head Coach Blair Reid, " I appriciate and understand the history and meaning behind this award. We are grateful to those responsible selecting Grand View University and proud of our lads who continue to positively represent Viking Athletics."
