The Grand View men's and women's cross country teams participated in the Heart of America Conference Championships Saturday held at Swope Park in Kansas City, Mo.

The men's team placed ninth out of 13 teams with senior Rhett Gainey (Monroe, Iowa) leading the pack with a 15th place finish and receiving Heart All-Conference Honorable Mention honors. Junior Ben Bourland (Des Moines, Iowa) made an impressive jump in the Vikings line up as he finished third on the team for the Vikings improving his personal best time by over a minute as he finished in a time of 29:27.

The Viking women finished eighth out of 14 teams and were led by freshman Maren Jeppson (Mount Vernon, Iowa) who finished 9th overall and earned Heart All-Conference Honors. Jeppson was the third individual national qualifier for the Heart and will compete at the NAIA National Championships on November 19 in Elsah, Ill. Jeppson's time of 18:42 is the second fastest time in Grand View history. Also posting 5k personal records for the Vikings were junior Michelle Thayer (Runnells, Iowa), freshman Sarah McMurtry (Strawberry Point, Iowa) and freshman Michaela Barretta (Indianola, Iowa).
