The Grand View men's and women's cross country teams participated in the St. Ambrose Fighting Bee Invite over the weekend and both teams finished eighth out of 13 teams.

On the women's side, junior Michelle Thayer (Runnells, Iowa), freshman duo Michaela Barretta (Indianola, Iowa), and Sarah McMurtry (Strawberry Point, Iowa) all ran season's best times for a 5k course.

In the men's race, senior Rhett Gainey (Monroe, Iowa) had a standout day as he finished 11th out of 132 finishers and ran a lifetime personal record of 26:55. Gainey's time is also the fifth fastest time in Grand View school history for an 8k course. Senior Chris DeJoode (Des Moines, Iowa) and junior Evan Rix (Nevada, Iowa) also ran lifetime personal records and landed on Grand View's top 25 all-time list at #17 and #22, respectively. In addition to Gainey, DeJoode, and Rix, five other Vikings ran their all-time best at the invite including junior Duoth Tut (Urbandale, Iowa), freshman Joshua Morrow (Marshalltown, Iowa), freshman Colton Galusha (Clinton, Iowa), freshman Ryan Moshinsky (Batavia, Ill.) and sophomore Taylor Murray (Clinton, Iowa).

The Vikings next competition is Friday (Oct 14) as they travel to Dubuque, Iowa for the Loras College Invitational.
