The Grand View men's and women's cross country teams competed in the Viking Invitational Friday which was relocated to Simpson College due to poor race conditions at the original site in Des Moines.

The women's team placed second overall and had four top 25 finishers in the 5k race. The Vikings were paced by freshman Maren Jeppson (Mount Vernon, Iowa) finishing in fifth place with a time of 20:33. Junior Michelle Thayer (Runnells, Iowa) came in 14th at 22:00 and senior Hayley Leonard (Maxwell, Iowa) and junior Christa Nordgren (Kirkland, Ill.) finished 18th and 25th, respectively.

On the men's side, senior Rhett Gainey (Monroe, Iowa) continued to lead the pack with his sixth place overall finish in a time of 20:32. Junior Evan Rix (Nevada, Iowa) ran a 16 second personal best for a 6k course with his time of 21:29 while senior Chris DeJoode (Des Moines, Iowa) increased his personal best by 10 seconds (21:41).

Both the men's and women's teams were the top finishing Heart Conference schools at the meet which also included William Penn and Graceland.

The Vikings will next compete on Saturday September 24 at the Roy Griak Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota.  Race time is set for 9:30 a.m. at the Les Bolstad Golf Course in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
