The Grand View Vikings women's golf team took 2nd place in the Heart of America Conference Championships.

The Grand View Vikings women's golf played their best golf of the year at the right time this week taking second place behind the William Penn University Statesmen at the Heart of America Conference Championships in Nebraska City, Nebraska the past two days.

Grand View shot an overall two round score of 664 which was 21 strokes behind winner William Penn. In round one the Vikings shot 338 and followed up in round two with a 326. William Penn shot a 643 as a team to win the Conference Championship after rounds of 326 and 317.

Maria Mantilla (Bogota, Colombia), who led after day one, finished in third place individually shooting a 157 after rounds of 75 and 82. Kimberly Nelson (Malaysia) was not far behind finishing tied for sixth place shooting 84 and 80 for a total of 164. Jalyn Briley (Boone, Iowa) shot a 169 after rounds of 86 and 83 to finish the tournament tied for 12th. Tessa Swacker (Waterloo, Iowa) placed tied for 18th place shooting a round one score of 93 and round two score of 81 for a total of 174. Emily Wagner finished the tournament 32nd shooting a 99 and 90 for a total score of 189.

Coach Winkel was very proud of the performance his ladies put on in the last event of the year. "They all played like champions," said Winkel. "This was a great way to end the season and leads us in a positive direction for next year's returners, "he added. "We will miss our lone graduating senior Jalyn Briley as she was a rock for us all year."
