The Grand View bowling teams traveled to Addison Illinois over the weekend to compete in the Kegel/ISBPA Midwest Collegiate Classic, a USBC Tier One tournament.

The Vikings women finished sixth in the field of 51 teams. On day one of the tourney, the ladies bowled five individual games. Leading the team was sophomore Rebecca Broerman (Mason City, Iowa) with a 198 five-game average, followed by junior Brittany Smith with 195 five-game average, senior Sarah Muench (Kewaskum, Wis.) 195 five-game average, sophomore Hannah Munson (Cottage Grove, Minn.) 192 five-game average, freshman Makayla Erickson (Burnsville, Minn.) 178 two-game average and freshman Amanda Duplan (Citrus Heights, Calif.) 165 for one game. Subbing in to fill frames was sophomore Kayleigh Duff (Des Plaines, Ill.) and freshman Rileigh Fagan (Plainfield, Ill.).

Going into day two, The Vikings were sitting seventh with 20 baker games left to bowl. With baker sets of 697, 779,780,804, and 786 for a baker team total of 3846 and an average of 193, combined with day one's finish of 4703, the ladies totaled 8549 and a 189.9 team average that moved them into sixth place. Great team work and determination was shown by all players.

The Viking men also had a great tournament appearance at Kegel. The men had a total pin fall of 8636 over 45 games, averaging 191. Freshman Sam Cantrell (Citrus Heights, Calif.) had a tremendous performance for the varsity men on Saturday finishing 18th in the field with a 214 average over five individual games. Junior Zach Fries (Davenport, Iowa) also had a great performance over the weekend averaging 194 over the five games bowled this weekend.

The men finished 16th this past weekend out of 60 teams and edged out Mount Mercy, Hastings (Neb.) and Vincennes (Ind.).

The Viking bowlers next compete at the Clarke Crusader Open February 6-7 in Dubuque.
