The Grand View baseball team jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings against Avila (Mo.) on Friday night, but big four-run innings by the Eagles in the fourth, seventh, and eighth innings was enough to end the Vikings season in the double elimination NAIA Tournament in Cleveland, Tenn.
Catcher Blake Marchant finished the season strong at the plate, going 4-for-5 with three RBIs. Other bright spots were Micah Loegering who went 3-for-5 with an RBI. Zac Smit, Bret Nyquist, Evan DeCovich and Nick Salentine each had two hits on the night.
Grand View held a 8-4 lead into the seventh before Avila tallied four runs in each the seventh and eighth innings for their first lead of the game. The Vikings took their hacks in the final two frames to cut the lead to 12-10, but that's as close as it would get.
The Vikings played Avila six times this year, and finished with a 1-5 record against the team from Missouri. Grand View finished the year with a 26-21 record overall.
