Obsie Birru looks to defend her title in the 5,000m
Women's Indoor Track and Field - Fri, Mar. 2, 2012

Grand View senior Obsie Birru won the first of two preliminary heats in the women's 5,000m at the NAIA National Championships in Geneva, Ohio.  She cruised to a time of 17:40.79 advancing her to Saturday's final to defend her national title from last season. 

The Viking women's 4x800m relay team of Kara Keller, Betsy Craig, Allie McFayden, and Jasmine Nielsen ran a school record time of 9:30.92 posting the10th fastest time of the day, just missing the top eight to advance to Friday's final heat.

Grand View's distance medley relay team of Keller, Maggie Pestotnik, Craig, and Birru ran the ninth fastest qualifying time narrowly missing advancement to the final heat being run on Saturday.

MCC champion Laurel Murphy and freshman Dionna Reed will make their national meet debuts tomorrow in the 60m hurdles at 1:35pm. The Viking throwers will step into the ring at 4 p. m. with two-time All-American Lauryn Camp and sophomore Colleen Frank competing in the weight throw.  Senior Kara Keller will compete in the semifinal of the women's 800m run beginning at 4 p.m.
