Men's Soccer - Tue, Oct. 18, 2011

The No. 6 Viking men traveled to Lamoni Tuesday to face Graceland in non-conference action. The Yellowjackets, who have been receiving votes in the NAIA rankings and have been previously ranked in the top 25, gave GV a run for its money pushing the game to a 0-0 double-overtime tie.

Freshman keeper Conor Thomas (Bray, Wicklow, Ireland) was a bright spot for GV Tuesday, making several unbelievable saves and finishing with nine on the night.

Graceland used its home field advantage and was the aggressor firing 15 shots to GV's 9 shots and 9-5 in shots on goal. The Vikings fought down to the wire and produced the only scoring opportunity by both teams in the final overtime period, but was unable to put one in the back of the net.

GV moves to 14-1-1 on the year. The Vikings (7-0 MCC) head to Mount Mercy Saturday for its final MCC regular season game. The match-up with the Mustangs 8-5-2, 6-1 MCC) is one of the most important of the season thus far, with the regular season title and top-seeding for the MCC Tourney on the line. Game time is 3 p.m. at Lower Kingston Field in Cedar Rapids.
