The Grand View men's and women's basketball teams will both play in the NAIA Div II Championship opening rounds on Wednesday.
 
The men tip off against Sioux Falls at 8:30 a.m. with a radio broadcast live on www.gvcradio.com
 
The women take on Minot State at 12 p.m.

Grand View's Steven Hughes (Grimes, Iowa), Obsie Birru (Des Moines, Iowa), and Lauryn Camp (Preston, Iowa) have been selected as this week's Midwest Collegiate Conference Track & Field Athletes of the Week for their performances at the NAIA National Championships last weekend.

Hughes placed fifth and earned All-American status in the Heptathlon scoring 4.652 points. Birru was second in the 5,000m Run in a time of 17:15.13 for All-American status. Camp placed fourth in the Weight Throw with a toss of f 16.6 meters. The Viking women finished in 14th place overall.

The Viking track & field teams start the outdoor season on March 20th at the Central Methodist Open in Fayette, Missouri. Events begin at 10 a.m.

The Vikings traveled to Kansas City over the weekend to take on Avila University where they dropped a doubleheader 15-5 and 7-3.

The Vikings clung on to a 3-2 lead going in to the bottom of the third, but the Eagles scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 7-3 lead. The Vikings responded in the top of the fifth with A.J. Krist (West Des Moines, Iowa) and Chris Cutler singles (Des Moines, Iowa). Jeff Brooks (Forest Lake, Minn.) doubled to bring in Krist, and Kyler Morgan (Carlisle, Iowa) singled to bring in Cutler to cut the Eagles lead 7-5. The Eagles exploded for seven runs in the fifth to take a commanding 13-5 lead. The Vikings could not push anymore runs across in the top of the sixth inning and the Eagles tacked on two more runs to end the game.

Cameron Olinger (Puyallup, Wash.) hit his first home run of the season and drove in two runs. Jeff Brooks ended up with two hits in the first game to highlight the Vikings.
